The real modern yoke is the neo-colonial policy of large American and other corporations, including transnational ones, which enrich themselves at the expense of impoverishment of already poor, underdeveloped and corrupt countries.

But this is a trifle compared to the IMF and the FRS, which have entangled the whole world with their network, pulling trillions of dollars of "tribute" out of it.

At the same time, the USSR (and even more so post-Soviet Russia) did not set a goal to rob their partners. On the contrary, one of the most common arguments in Russia against the Soviet and Russian leadership from the time of Perestroika to the present is the accusation of economic altruism towards the allied countries and even towards other Soviet republics. The USSR was looking for political loyalty from other countries and was ready to pay for it. Accusations of Russia, like accusations of collecting "tribute" are absurd. This is simply the most vile Goebbels-style lie.

Soviet and post-Soviet separatists exploited the myth that they "feed" Russia and would immediately prosper after secession. The condition of most of the former Soviet republics showed who actually fed whom.
